I haven't even fully divulged every variable involved in each day of business, which gives you a solid hint about how deep this simulation runs, but not so deep that you can't have a solid hand in the goings-on from sun up to sun down. Just don't be fooled by the "Tycoon" tacked on at the end of the title, since it has little in common with a Zoo Tycoon or a Roller Coaster Tycoon beyond the business modeling itself. There's nothing lasting in Fairy Godmother Tycoon: nothing physical to create, no floor plans to sketch out, no employee patrols to map … there's only just-in-time production of potions, instantly consumed, and percentage numbers to finagle. So while the economy is wonderful to manipulate, Fairy Godmother Tycoon doesn't draw on your own inherent creativity. It only asks you to do the math. But taking it for what it is, it accomplishes all of its design elements with a cool confidence, and simultaneously hits on that essential Addiction Factor that gives budget-priced casual games their longevity. What sets the game apart are the ways you can go about accomplishing all of this the marketing goons, for example, that you can hire and place strategically around the town to convince the populace to go to your store-they are very funny. The better the goon, the more money it costs, of course! Every step of the way the game gives you the peasants' reactions. The peasantry has a tendency to develop curses that require potions, and the ailments are funny, as well. It's a story, it's a business simulation, it's a strategy game, it's really quite a lot of things. This particular game is all wrapped up in such a humorous and charming package that I just can't stop playing it. Really, the only way to know if you would like it is to give the one-hour demo a try that's what I did, and when my one hour was up, I just knew I had to have it. ![]()
